Fedelium Servorum or “In Christ We Serve” has always been the slogan for the St. Ignatius Church Altar Servers. Altar serving provides an opportunity to take an active role in service at the altar of the Lord. This ministry is ideal for youth from the ages of 10 to the early 20s.
The servers attend to supporting tasks at the altar such as fetching and carrying, ringing of the altar bell, etc. As Altar Servers, they learn to be responsible and attentive. The altar servers must be matured to carry out these duties without disrupting the sanctity of the altar. This gives them a good chance to get closer to the church and to God.
Typical activities of the Altar Servers would include camps, attending formation, monthly practice sessions, monthly meetings, field outings and their Annual General Meeting. Apart from the normal Masses, the servers are also involved in the celebration of mass for Easter, Pentecost, Corpus Christi, Holy Week, Christmas and special events like Rosary at the Grotto and the Parish Feast Day.
