RCIA

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a programme managed by a group of facilitators to welcome and assist adults who want to discover more about God and Christianity, and to prepare them for baptism into the Catholic faith. This programme is a journey made in the company of facilitators, sponsors, and priests with the support of the church community. It facilitates faith discovery through teaching, sharing, prayers, communal worship, fellowship and other forms of experiential exercises.

How long is the journey?

The whole programme lasts approximately 11 months, culminating with baptism at the Easter Vigil in April. Held on Tuesday nights, each RCIA session lasts for two hours.

Are there any conditions to meet?

No, just come as you are.

Is there a course fee?

No, the programme is free of charge.

Who can participate?

The RCIA process is open to the following:

  1. Individuals who have not been baptised and who express a desire to study Catholic Christian beliefs and practices,
  2. Individuals who have been baptised in another Christian denomination and who wish to explore membership in the Catholic Church, and
  3. Catholics who have been baptised but who have not received the Sacraments of Confirmation and/or Holy Eucharist.

Am I obligated to become a Catholic if I go through the RCIA process?

There is no obligation for participants to become members of the Catholic Church. Anyone seeking information about the Catholic faith is welcome to attend our sessions. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions and dialogue with the facilitators. There are times during the RCIA process for you to explore your intentions and continue to discern God's call. Everything shared during the sessions will be treated with confidentiality and respect.

What materials are needed?

All materials will be provided for you. You will receive a Bible and other related materials as tools for reflection.

How do I start?

Our next journey commences on Tuesday, 8 June 2010 at 8 pm.
