Introduction:
The SIC Prison Ministry started in February 2002 with the commissioning of a few parishioners by Rev Father Thomas Koo, the previous Parish Priest of St Ignatius.
Activities and outreach:
The Ministry's outreach activities are two fold. First, the monthly visit on the 3rd Saturday of each month where, home cooked food prepared by volunteers are brought to the Welcome Community Home at Batu Arang. here, activities are carried out with the inmates followed by lunch and fellowship. In addition, provisions are distributed to the Home. Mass is also organized at the Home during the visits.
The second activity are the visits to the inmates at Sungai Buloh prison, where members of the Ministry share the Word of God and provide spiritual guidance as well as lend a ear to the troubled inmates.
Finances:
The Ministry operates through the generous donations of parishioners and a small budget from our church. We are very thankful for the generous support received. Donations are always welcome to support our activities.
Outlook:
The Ministry in its inception had more than 30 volunteers but sadly this has since been reduced to around 9. With some getting on in age, this Ministry is in need of volunteers. Please contact Peter Lim at 016-2877835 to volunteer.
